How to Effectively Host Gatherings in Your Condo
   by Nina Tambal  •  Mar 27, 2019  •  General
Aching to throw an amazing party or gathering? Perhaps, maybe even the best in town? Well then, you've come to the right place!

Being the host of an intimate gathering or vibrant party isn't an easy task. Especially if you're doing all the hosting in your own condo.

It may not be the biggest of places, but that doesn't mean you won't be able to pull a memorable get-together off.

So, here are five tips I can give you on how to efficiently host gatherings in the comforts of your apartment.

1. Clean and prep
Get all of your logistics down.

You can start by cleaning your condo if it isn't neat already. That way, you will have a clearer vision of how you want the public spaces of your home to look.

After that, you can prepare your game plan, from your menu to your playlist.

Is it going to be a fun party where you play games to get to know each other and test your skills? Or is it going to be a super chill get-together where you marathon all sorts of films and TV shows?

But no matter what type of gathering you choose to throw, keep in mind that the larger the company you have, the smaller the plate size you should buy.

Because with more people, the more likely they will be standing or sitting on the arm of a sofa. The struggle is going to be way too real if you let your guests hold a huge ceramic plate in the midst of merriment.

Also, remember to keep your décor simple. So that you don't have a tedious clean-up right after the event. An easier way to set the mood for the party is through setting the ambience you desire through lighting.

2. Serve your food potluck or buffet style
This tip falls into the prep category for those who are not a big fan of cooking.

I'm not saying you shouldn't cook at all, because it would be weird to be the host of a gathering yet not prepare any food.

What you can do is either cook or bake something you know you're a master at and you know that your guests will love.

Create a couple of those and also ask your guests to contribute a dish to the party menu. Or if you don't want to bother your friends and family with that task, try ordering in.

Place all of the scrumptious goodness in one table and get ready to have a variety of food to choose from!

3. Assign one place for your guests' belongings
Keep their shoes by the entrance of your condo. It's already common practice in the Philippines (and everywhere else in Asia) to take off your shoes before entering a house.

Then, for other belongings such as jackets or bags, you can hang them on your coat racks or hanging rods.

If you don't have those, you can easily purchase one and make use of it even when you don't have a gathering to host at home. It keeps your clutter to a minimum.

4. Get creative with your seats
Besides your couch and dining chairs, you're going to need more seats for your guests.

Buying or owning fold-up chairs just for the purpose of hosting a get-together is unpractical. You're not always going to maximize them, especially if you live alone.

So, if you have some big pillows or footrests or stools lying around in the house, you can make use of them during the party. They can serve as chairs for the guests as well.

5. Be flexible
Know how to improvise.

The ideal gathering you've envisioned in your mind will not always go as smoothly as you think. There are many scenarios that may cause stress during and after the event.

One example is tardiness. "Filipino time", as they say. You will be better off by setting an earlier time for stubborn friends and family members who have a habit of being late.

Learn to go with the flow and deal with whatever problem that may come calmly and logically.

Final Thoughts
And most of all, have fun!

There truly is nothing like bonding with your close friends and family. Or even mingling with and meeting new people in a party.

One of the greatest traits we have as Filipinos is that we value quality time with people, whether it's with the ones who matter the most in our lives or those who are about to be.

So, cheers to the awesome and unforgettable gatherings to come, to the memories that have yet to be made, and to the loved ones that will make it worth your while.
