Workouts to Try During Quarantine
   by Nina Tambal  •  Sep 01, 2020  •  General
Since the quarantine has been imposed in the Philippines last March, many of us had to find ways to unwind or expand our interests.

The activities may be limited, but there are a lot of tools that are accessible online. One of these activities include working out.

Even pre-COVID, there have been many apps available that you can easily download. There are YouTube channels that provide various types of exercises.

However, you may be thinking: where do I even start? How do I even know what type of routine I want for myself?

Well, don’t worry! I’ve got you covered. Here are workouts you can try during quarantine depending on your lifestyle.

For the beginner

This is for the fitness virgin or the on-and-off the gym type. One thing that I want to make clear for all beginners out there is that you do not have to do long or difficult exercises in order to lose weight or boost your health and fitness.

You may feel intimidated or pressured into doing intense workouts right off the bat. But I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to. It is okay to take baby steps.

To sustain a healthy lifestyle, you have to find the workout routine (plus rightful diet) that you can keep up with and commit to.

So, let’s start with exercises such as getting in and out of the chair or walking up and down the stairs, or even getting up and down from the floor.

Although these may appear simple, it will burn energy, build muscular strength, improve balance, and enhance your flexibility.

Try doing multiple repetitions within a short time frame. VeryWellFit.com provides many useful beginner workout routines that you can get onboard with!

Shout out to my fellow yogis for this one! And the people who practice Pilates. If you’re the type who wants to slow down and have a bit of a more calming practice, yoga or Pilates is for you.

For years, I was looking for the workout that I can be able to do every day and yoga was it for me. Not only have I seen results physically, I have also witnessed results mentally. Yoga serves as my stress reliever after a long day at work.

Pilates is more fast-paced compared to yoga and focuses on core strength and stability. Either way, both workouts both help with your alignment, balance, and strength. In terms of equipment, all you will be needing for yoga is a mat. For Pilates, it will depend on the kind of class that you want to get into.

If you want to get a good head start on your yoga practice, I highly recommend Fightmaster Yoga on YouTube. And of course, for Pilates, give Blogilates a try.

For the adrenaline junkie

This is for individuals who want cardio intensity and calorie expenditure to the max. The ones who are aching to hit the gym, but can’t at the moment.

You can try circuit training or High-Intensity Training (HIT). It is possible in the safety of your own home. You will need a bit of space though, as well as a few equipment every now and then.

There are workouts that you can find on YouTube that require no equipment. But if you have any in your house, now is the time to utilize them!

In my journey of looking for the right workout routine, I used Nike Training Club app for a while, thanks to a recommendation of a friend. It has a diverse selection of exercises you can try, from cardio and HIT to strength training.

For the partygoer

Do you prefer to work up a sweat but with less intensity as the previous suggested fitness routine? Well then, dance workouts are for you!

These also suit those who love to go to the clubs and all the parties to dance the night away. Dancing was actually one of the exercises I tried before, since I enjoy it. However, not as a workout routine.

That may not be the case for you though. Especially if you want something fun for your everyday workout. Check out POPSUGAR Fitness on YouTube for a wide range of dances.

For k-pop fans, Kpop Fitness and KpopX Fitness offer awesome videos.

Final thoughts

Keeping fit is probably the last thing on anyone’s mind right now. But for those who are looking for something, anything, that will help them cope during the quarantine, it wouldn’t hurt to try these fitness routines.

In a way, working out even helps you combat the invisible enemy out there, which is the virus. For exercising helps you strengthen your immune system (with the proper diet as well).

So, do whatever feels right for you during this challenging time. Your mental health is also just as important as your physical health. Stay safe and vigilant, everyone!
