How to Take Better Photos with a Smart Phone
   by Ice Artificio  •  Dec 15, 2016  •  General
A great photo does wonders for a listing to be noticed. Hiring a photographer may not work for everyone. It can be out of your budget or perhaps a unit needs to be posted rush and you just don’t have the time to find one. Worry not! You can still take appealing photos with a gadget you most likely already own: your smartphone.

Here are a few tips on how to take better photos with your smart phone.

Clear the Clutter
You’ll be surprised how many landlords overlook this rule. Cleaning and clearing out unnecessary items inside the room will make it look bigger. It also makes the difference between sloppy and professional looking pictures. Make the bed, clear out tissue boxes, mail, and messy cords before you start snapping away.

Switch on All the Lights
Take photos during the day with all the lights on can help brighten your unit instantly. The extra lighting will help your smartphone capture colors and details and minimize “noise” from taking dark photos. Bright lights can also help make the space look more inviting and spacious. If it still looks too dark after turning on all the lights, a quick lifehack is to use another phone and use the flashlight.

Use A Tripod
Tripods are great for stabilizing your camera, allowing you to take crisp and clear photos, especially if you have shaky hands. No tripod? Any sturdy surface where you can rest your hands and phone will do. Try using a high chair, a table, or even a steel ladder.

Highlight Your Strengths
Do you have furniture that accentuates the living space or a veranda with a great view? Closets, dressers, and appliances that come with the unit including washing machine, stove top oven, or air conditioners all add value to your unit. Don’t forget to add those in the frame!

Take Different Angles
Some angles may not be too flattering for your unit. To help users get a bigger picture (pardon the pun), the different photos of your unit from different points of view. Climb a chair and get a bird’s eye view or a shot from the floor can help them see the ceiling details. This also allows potential tenants to imagine how they will fit in the unit and how they can decorate it.

Take Outdoor Photos
A good exterior is a must have. This gives your would-be-renters an idea of how the neighborhood will be like and how other tenants take care of their units, at least from an outsider’s perspective. It also makes it easier for potential tenants to easily find the place. Showcase your condominium’s amenities but refrain from taking photos with people inside the frame.

Remember, before you can tell a potential tenant the perks of the place, how convenient it would be to choose your place, you need to first capture their attention and make a good impression. This is why great photos attract more interested renters, making the extra effort worth it.

Hope this helps you give a more professional look on your unit’s photos. Think we missed some tips or have any life hacks on how to take better photographs without using pro tools? We’d love to hear them in the comments below,

Happy Renting!
